Armed with a tri-pod, a camera, and a hope for the best, we headed to the park on this cold, drizzly Saturday afternoon for a Christmas card family photo shoot. Because it was so cold, and getting dark already at 3:30, I wanted to work fast. So we threw in a little extra incentive...smile, look at the camera, don't move around too much, and as soon as we're done we'll head up to the Bavarian town of Leavenworth for some good German food. Even Genevieve seemed to like this idea. ;) What dog doesn't like a Bratwurst? We found an outdoor beer garden that welcomed our dog, served organic meat, and had a fire place to sit near and keep warm. Perfect... except when Genevieve got greedy and stole Trent's Bratwurst right out of his hands.

One of these two will probably be what gets used for the Christmas card.

This last picture below, was one I took when they were waiting for me to set up the camera. I think it's my favorite.

Your hair has gotten so long! It looks great!
All the photos look great but I think the last one is my favorite too.
Great pictures! The one of you and your husband turned out particularly nice. If only you had been in the dog hugging picture...it really is cute!
I love them all...especially the last one. I can't believe how well that dog posed for the camera, I bet you had lots of treats for her to get her to stay.
Oh melt my heart! That last photo is adorable. Since you're not in it, you can't have it as a Christmas Card, but if it was me I'd be enlarging it and hanging it on my wall. Priceless.
I am amazed at how you got everyone to pose so perfectly for the second shot, but I really love the one where Trent is slightly lopsided.
I've said it many times - you have an adorable family.
Okay first of all your hair is long!! Have you just not shown us a picture lately? I like it...very cute.
Also you are right, that last picture is priceless :)
Oh, Dawn, they are ALL beautiful!
Those turned out great. What a beautiful family you have! I'm amazed that Genevieve posed so nicely for you.
I would have to bribe my kids too to smile nicely (well, at least B. He's always making funny faces).
I love the one where they're waiting too. so sweet! We'll be tackling this soon and I don't look forward to it. Getting them to all look pleasant, never mind smile, at the same time is nearly impossible. :)
Gorgeous photos! I love how you used b&w! It's a great idea that I'll have to keep in mind... especially as you wouldn't have to have everyone color coordinate!
They are all wonderful!!! Gosh, I can't even pick a favorite! I think I have a special weak spot for black and white photos as well.
Great pictures Dawn! I love them all.
All really pretty I love the last one of the kids with their dad and the dog. That one is a cute personal one.
Great photos! We typically use a candid shot from some time in the year for our xmas card. Looks like you are all set!!
Wow! They are fabulous! Of the two you are choosing between I really like the second one.
Great job! :)
I love the last photo, too!! Very sweet and personal. The others are great too! You have a beautiful family. My dog is very good at stealing the kids food when they aren't looking!
Haha naughty genevieve! All the photos are great. I like the second one but you could use any of them. Must be hard being such a good looking family ;)
I love them all! Its great you included Genevieve, too. That one of you and Derek is great. Good for a frame.
So fun! I love them all! Your hair is getting long; I like it.
I also love the last photo. Very nice pictures!
All of these are really wonderful ~ and your new puppy sat so nicely for her family portrait!
The one at the bottom is my very favorite. The top one is great for the Christmas card.
These are nice!
I love the last picture
Your pictures are fantastic! What a beautiful family you all are!
Wow. My favorites are the first and last because they are different. Beautiful.
Great photos!
Very nice! I Like the third picture best.
Wow! These are GREAT! I LOVE the last picture! It is so beautiful how the trees in the last photo seem to envelop your family! Could you crop the 2nd of the 2 you are choosing from slightly further out to show the trees? I absolutely LOVE that one!i'd say your shoot was a success!
Your family is beautiful Dawn, such lovely photos!I can't get over how even the dog posed so wonderfully!
Um. Totally my fault that you left at 3:30!!! Sorry :) But I am so so thrilled about these pictures. You are amazing Dawn. Thanks for sharing part of your day with us, I'm glad it was fun and you accomplished your mission.
Kristen,
It was wonderful getting to have a chance to chat with you on Saturday. Who would think that it would be getting dark at 3:30!
Oh, that last photo is wonderful, teary-eyed wonderful! Agree it can't be the Christmas card since you're not in it. Loved this whole series of photos!

What a great idea for pictures. We might just do that instead of professional. Yours look just as good and I would make a guess it was a lot less than the $150 I usually shell out.
